Toxics Free Maryland

We are constantly exposed to toxic chemicals in our food, drinking water, and consumer products. Yet very few chemicals have been tested for safety by the government before they are put into toys our children play with, health and beauty products we apply to our skin, and furniture we bring into our homes. We are constantly exposed to chemicals that haven’t been proven safe—and these exposures add up over time.

Energy Efficient MD

The 2008 EmPOWER Maryland Act set an ambitious goal to reduce Maryland's energy consumption 15% by 2015. To help achieve this goal, the state's five utility companies are required to offer their customers a suite of programs to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. The utilities offer a number of resources, many of which do not require a major financial investment and can result in significant energy and cost savings over time. A list of these programs can be accessed here.

Credit Freezes: How to Prevent New Account Identity Theft

Defense against any kind of identity theft starts with vigilance about protecting your personal information by taking steps such as creating secure passwords, keeping your social security number private, and shredding personal documents.

However, if and when someone does steal your information, there are a variety of ways it can be used, depending on what was taken. One of those uses is known as new account identity theft, where someone opens a new account in your name and then proceeds to rack up a ton of debt. New account identity theft is the most preventable kind of identity theft and can be prevented by getting security freezes, also known as credit freezes.
