Vote recommendation for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

U.S. PIRG

WASHINGTON — As the U.S. Senate approaches a final vote on the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, U.S. PIRG sent the following letter to senators urging them to vote yes.

Dear Senators,

On behalf of our members and state offices across the country, U.S. PIRG urges you to support the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. We will strongly consider scoring this legislation.

Outdated infrastructure endangers our health and our environment. Pipes leach lead into our kids’ drinking water and leak sewage into our waterways. Our sprawling highway network makes car travel cheap and easy, but at the cost of a stable climate and thousands of lives lost each year from crashes and air pollution.

This package makes progress towards solving these problems through:

  • $55 billion for water infrastructure, including funding to remove lead pipes and address lead in school drinking water
  • $7.5 billion to begin building a nationwide electric vehicle charging network
  • Funding for thousands of clean, electric school buses and low and zero emission transit buses
  • Record investments in transit, walking and biking infrastructure
  • Investments in energy efficiency
  • Historic funding to clean up Superfund and brownfield sites, reclaim abandoned mine land and cap orphaned gas well, and the reinstatement of some Superfund “polluters pay” fees

Please vote yes on this bill.
Thank you,

Katie Murtha
Vice President of Government Affairs
U.S. PIRG
