32 state Attorneys General to Congress: Don't replace our stronger privacy laws!

Some 32 Democratic and Republican state Attorneys General have sent a strong letter to the bi-partisan sponsors of a draft federal data breach and data security bill. The weak, industry-backed proposal from Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) would override, or preempt, numerous better state privacy laws and, importantly, prevent states from ever again acting to protect their citizens' financial DNA better. We don't like the bill either.

Letter to support Maryland Metro/Transit Funding Act

Maryland PIRG is proud to support the Maryland Metro/Transit Funding Act onf 2018. We have signed onto this letter to Governor Hogan, President Miller, and Speaker Busch to advance this legislation that increases funding for the Maryland Transit Administration and the DC metropolitan-area Metro transit system to support upgrades and improvements for transit system and requires long term planning for regional Baltimore transit system.

Let's ban toxic chemicals in paint strippers

On Tuesday we were pleased to suppoort Delegate Lam's bill, HB1138 to ban the use of the chemicals methylene chloride (DCM) and N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) in paintstrippers. These chemicals are highly toxic and dangerous.
